Child Participants Performing on Cast
The Renaissance Festival prides itself on being a family-oriented show and encourages participation by family members when possible. We would like to take this opportunity to help you to make a decision regarding the participation of your family, particularly young children. If, as a parent, you do not wish to participate, please be aware that we might have difficulty finding an opportunity for children under 16 to participate and cannot allow children under 12 to participate without a parent.
The Entertainment program, through auditions, selects individuals to help enhance the village atmosphere for our patrons. As an entertainer at the Festival you have been asked to participate in specific job to ensure a pleasant atmosphere and smooth operation of the Festival day. Please be sure that you are able to honor that commitment and still care for your children. Other cast members have responsibilities as well, so please resist the temptation to ask other participants to watch your child. Please do not take advantage of the supportive nature of your fellow performers.
Occasionally, other participants may offer their services as babysitters for extra income during the Festival day. It is your responsibility to make any arrangements, as well as screen any applicants for the availability or qualifications of babysitters. Arrangements should be made well in advance and should not interfere with the babysitter meeting his or her contractual obligation to the Festival.
The Festival is not equipped to provide childcare for participants, and those of you with young children must take full responsibility for their care. As you are aware, young children require constant supervision and have the same physical needs that you have during a performance day (water, sunscreen, warm clothes, food, etc) so you should have plenty of the necessary supplies accessible. Be aware that the crowds and noises of the Festival may overwhelm a young child. Also, for the comfort of the audience, we ask participants that any intimate care such as breastfeeding or diaper changing be taken care of backstage.
The presence of children in our Festival village can add a wonderful and valuable element of realism and family to the show, and many children of Festival participants have grown up to become participants themselves. It is our hope this information helps you to make a decision regarding the participation of your children. We encourage you to include your children if you can do so in a way that allows you to enjoy your participation in this event.
Thank you for your understanding.
