For twenty years Regis Rowland Malady Jr. ran The Celtic Trader - a shop located in Charlotte, NC specializing in Scottish and Irish music. Regis was instrumental in introducing local Celtic musicians to the rest of the country by bringing their music to many music festivals and Scottish highland games around the country.
The Celtic Trader would host weekly jam sessions attended over the years by many musicians from the Carolina Renaissance Festival, including CRF musician John Trexler. John was a masterful player of over 100 historical instruments and the first musician to audition and participate the first season of the Carolina Renaissance Festival.
Regis passed away in 2010 and John passed away in 2012.
In honor of these two champions of Celtic Music, on one special weekend each annual season the Carolina Renaissance Festival will host The Celtic Music Jam Weekend with presentations of Celtic music by both special performers and by many of your favorite Renaissance Festival mynstrels. A memorial jam session in Regis and John's honor will be held at the Royal Pavilion at 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday. We encourage you to join us in celebration.
